Project
Date: August, 2017
Name: Audra Murray
Country from: England
Project: Helping in Orphanage(Community Development)
“I've
been volunteering since I was sixteen years old within my local community
as a vet assistant, lifeguard assistant or any other tasks you could possibly
think of doing in a giant city like London. Year after year, I wanted
to do something 'different', I wanted my volunteering to be meaningful,
something I enjoyed yet, allow me to stand out from the rest of the 20years
olds around the world & accidentally, I came across AOVO . I discovered
a project that satisfied my passion for Orphans and my love to travel
& helping Orphans! Traveling alone and abroad can be a daunting journey,
but through AOVO they provided me with as stress-free of arrival in to
the country, pick-up and drop off at the airport, safe accommodation and
meals, orientation and brief overview of some general rules and customs
of the country as well as a really friendly in-country coordinator accessible
by phone 24 hours a day 7 days a week! I felt safe knowing that I have
the backup support and was
ready to take on the task of volunteering in a foreign country, Ghana!
I lived on a beach for two whole weeks with complete strangers whom a
few I still keep in touch with. AOVO allowed me the opportunity to meet
people my age all over the world, France, England, Canada, US.
It's volunteer work, but it's more fun than anyone can imagine! Yes, we
cleared paths, built showers and toilets for future volunteers along with
watching cute babies in the Orphanage, but you definitely can't forget
the laughter and excitement each day would bring!! Heck & we even
had monkeys watch us shower in the woods! One of the best things I really
appreciated was the safety they provided for me to travel there alone.
I've never traveled to a foreign country without relatives or friends
to pick me up – AOVO made it as stress-free as possible especially
when I barely learn Dagbani ! I think I've fallen in love with volunteer
travel and I've
already planned my next destination to Ghana to help lion conservation
as my next vacation through AOVO. I would definitely (and already have)
referred some of my friends to AOVO volunteer projects!”
